Public inquiry ordered into Sheku Bayoh death

The Justice Secretary has ordered an independent public inquiry into the death of Sheku Bayoh.

Humza Yousaf says the inquiry "must address the question" over whether Mr Bayoh's race played a part in how the incident which led to his death was approached and dealt with by the police.

It follows a decision yesterday by the Lord Advocate not to prosecute any of the police officers involved in the incident in Kirkcaldy in 2015.

Mr Bayoh died after being restrained by officers in the town - those involved have always denied any wrongdoing.

His family met with Mr Yousaf and the First Minister Nicola Sturgeon today.
