Police probe as 4.5ft monitor lizard stolen from Fife shop

Police are investigating after a large monitor lizard was reportedly stolen from a shop in Fife.

Wild Things Plants and Exotics was targeted by thieves last week, with the reptile - which is more than 4ft long - disappearing.

The animal's owners searched for her for several days before informing police.

A police spokesperson said: "Officers are carrying out an investigation after a shop in High Street, Methil was broken into on Monday November 9 2020.

“A Rennell Island monitor lizard was stolen. The lizard is described as being a sub species of Mangrove monitor lizard, four and half foot in length, tan in colour with creamy white spots.

“If anyone knows where the lizard is now, please call Police Scotland on 101, quoting 1838 of November 15."

The shop has created posters, and is offering a reward for the lizard's safe return:
