NHS Fife has appointed a motor neurone disease Clinical Nurse Specialist for the first time.

Louise Murrie's new role will mean she will look after 26 patients suffering from the condition in central and western parts of the Kingdom.

Her NHS Tayside colleague will continue to care for patients suffering from the disease in north east Fife.

In Scotland, there are currently around 450 people living with motor neurone disease.

The condition has no cure and has had its profile raised in recent years as a number of famous faces have either suffered from the disease and lost their lives as a result of it or are currently living with the condition.

Former Kirkcaldy High School pupil and motor neurone disease campaigner Gordon Aikman, who raised £500,000 for research into the condition, died from the disease in February 2017 after being diagnosed with the condition back in 2014.

You can hear Louise talk about her new role and what she will be doing to help patients with motor neurone disease:
