Forensics officers arrive at scene after human remains found in Glenrothes

Forensics officers have arrived at an industrial estate in Glenrothes after the discovery of human remains.

An area around Whitehill Road has been cordoned off after the find at around 5.20pm yesterday.

The remains are unidentified, and no further information has been released at this stage.

The family of missing Glenrothes man Allan Bryant, who was last seen outside Styx nightclub in the town in November 2013 - just over a mile away - say police have informed them of the discovery.

But they say they face an anxious wait for more information, with forensics investigations still to take place at the scene in an attempt to identify the remains.

In a post online, Allan Bryant Snr wrote: "My family had a visit from Glenrothes CID last night. They informed us that human remains where found at a local industrial estate, which is not far from our home.

"This is all my family know at the moment until the police and forensics carry out their investigation. This is a heartbreaking and distressing time for all my family - we do not know if this is our son Allan or not.

"Thank you all so much for your continued support."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 5.20pm yesterday, police were called after unidentified human remains were found at an industrial estate on Whitehill Road in Glenrothes. Inquiries are at an early stage."
