Fife postmaster recognised by Duke and Duchess of Rothesay for helping locals

A Fife postmaster is delighted after being recognised by the Duke and Duchess of Rothesay in a letter.

Irfan Ashgar, who is postmaster for Falkland, has been praised for helping locals during the coronavirus pandemic after a customer contacted Prince Charles and Camilla.

Brenda Graham wrote to thank the Duke of Rothesay for visiting the village earlier this year and told him about Irfan.

Both Prince Charles and Camilla said in their reply: "Their Royal Highnesses are grateful for you taking the trouble to let them know of the wonderful service your postmaster and village stores have been providing during this challenging time."

Irfan has been offering free deliveries to those unable to go out during the crisis.

He said: "I was really surprised to be mentioned in the letter - I didn't believe it at first when my customer told me, until I read the letter.

"It was so lovely to receive recognition from Prince Charles.

"This is a tight-knit community and I try to do what I can for my community."
