Dunfermline footballer shortlisted for global Fifa award - alongside stars of the game

A Dunfermline footballer has been shortlisted for a major award alongside some of the game's most famous players.

Caroline Weir, who plays for Manchester City and represents Scotland at international level, is in the running for the FIFA Puskás Award.

According to world football's governing body, the award honours the "best goal of the year", with the shortlist compiled by a panel of football experts.

The likes of Spurs forward Son Heung-Min and former Barcelona and Liverpool striker Luis Suarez are also in contention.

People can vote for their favourite goal on the Fifa website - with a top three being selected, before the winner is revealed at The Best FIFA Football Awards show in Zurich on Thursday December 17.

Weir spoke to Kingdom FM earlier this year about life in lockdown and the women's game.
