Work has started on a £300,000 revamp to Lade Braes, the path network from the outskirts of St Andrews into the town centre.

It's thanks to a partnership between Fife Council and charity Sustrans.

The existing path is being upgraded, with broken seats being replaced and signage being improved.

New litter bins are also being installed, with solar lighting to be provided and some minor tree work being done.

The work is being carried out in phases along the route to minimise disturbance to the public and local residents.

Signs will also be put up to advise the public of temporary alternative walking routes if and when they are needed at any work stage along the route.

Depending on the weather, it's expected that the work will be completed by the start of December.

Councillor Judy Hamilton, the convener of Fife Council's Communities & Housing Sub-Committee, said: "It’s great that work has begun on site.

"I welcome the investment in partnership with Sustrans.

"As a council, we’re committed to investing in our communities and to our priority of promoting health and wellbeing.

"I look forward to the work being completed so that the path can be enjoyed by everyone."

Sustrans funding originates with the Transport Scotland-supported Places for Everyone programme.

Simon Wasser, Infrastructure Manager for Sustrans Scotland, said: "We are glad to have been able to fund the work to upgrade Lade Breas.

"We hope that these improvements will make it easier for the local community to enjoy the local greenspace and travel to and from the town centre."
