Fears Over Forth Gas Drilling

Cluff Natural Resources have deferred drilling under the Forth

Cluff Natural Resources have deferred their Underground Coal Gasification bid for the Firth of Forth.

The company says the reasons behind the decision are varied but are partly due to the Scottish Government's moratorium on unconventional gas extraction.

UCG's an industrial process which converts coal into product gas by using injection of oxidants, and bringing the product gas to surface through production wells drilled from the surface.

Fife Councillor Tom Adam is calling on the Scottish Government to include UCG in the moratorium.

He's afraid that poisonous chemicals could mix with drinking water:
