Bridge Delays Expected

Motorists are being warned to expect delays on the Forth Road Bridge this weekend cable inspections continue.

Traffic will be restricted to a single lane in both directions from one to 9.30 am on Saturday morning and from 01:00 to 10:30 on Sunday morning.

Bosses say the works are "highly weather dependent" - if high winds, heavy rain or other circumstances result in cancellation they will be rescheduled for the next available weekend.

Meanwhile, we are being told we can expect a smoother approach to the Forth Road Bridge, with operating company Amey about to embark on a busy programme of road repairs.

Repars to potholes and other defects will be carried out at Echline Junction and Scotstoun Junction south of the bridge, and on the M90 north of the Forth Road Bridge between Monday night, 29 June, and concluding on the night of Thursday 23 July.

Those works will be carried out overnight between 20:00 and 06:00 and are not expected to cause significant disruption to traffic.

Work will be suspended during the weekends of T in the Park and The Open at St Andrews.

Under the terms of the Forth Bridges Operating Contract, Amey is responsible for the approach roads on both sides of the Forth from M9 Junction 1A at Kirkliston to M90 Junction 3 at Halbeath, as well as the Forth Road Bridge and the Queensferry Crossing when it opens. The contract commenced on 1 June 2015 and will run for five years with scope for extending up to a maximum of ten years.

Mark Arndt, Operating Company Representative, said: “We’re delighted to have secured agreement and funding to carry out these repairs and we’re looking forward to getting the job done so that road users feel the benefits.”
