Can We Make It To £3000?!

August 11th, 2010

If we do manage to get to £3000 on the Word Is Out then there’s a good chance we’ll start to give out some clues to the missing word. BUT, we’re not there yet!

Today the prize fund stands at a record £2840; an undeniably
huge amount of cash. While we’re not quite at the stages of giving clues out yet, we are giving you even more chances to play the game and give us your guess live on air every Wednesday with the catchily titled ‘Word Is Out Wednesday’!
There’s no need to call to register on a Wednesday when you want to play the game; just make sure you are dialling at 7:15 and 9:15am and with me at 5:15pm. We’ll do what we can to get as many of you live on air as possible in the time we’ve been allotted to play the game.

In case you’ve missed some of the more recent guesses, here’s a sample of them…
Atmosphere (yes! AGAIN!!), Jacuzzi, company, toilet, scenery, hullaballoo, coordination, action, texting, communication, takeaways, comforts, soil, elements, bath, garden, rain, outdoors, monkeys, mates, hogmanay, keys, nature, wildlife, midges, snogging, cat, radio, town, liberty, concrete, ladies, church, roads, rainbows, cooking, gravity, conservation, moonlight, hilarity, problems, sound, air, wife, food, snow, bed, income, chippy, birdsong, electricity, sleep, wii, folks, skiing, hugs, income, pollution, congestion, traffic, intimacy, lottery, colour, environment, money, earthlings…

A Garden Party, But No Knighthood… YET!

July 14th, 2010

It was all change on air at Kingdom FM yesterday as three quarters of the daily schedule were off air!

We, for reasons I’m still slightly unclear about, found ourselves invited to the Royal Garden Party at Holyrood Palace in Edinburgh! The best suits, and in some cases kilts, were looked out and we all dutifully queued up for the Big Event of the summer. I say ’summer’ - the sun was certainly shining when we left Fife to head to The Capital - though by the time we arrived at Holyrood it felt more like November. While it stayed dry all day, it was windy and extremely fresh. Luckily I opted for a suit rather than a kilt so managed to avoid any ‘Marilyn Monroe’ moments but there were certainly a few ladies there who might’ve been glad of a few extra layers.

We caught a glimpse of the star attraction (Kevin Brady in his kilt) and also managed to be only a few feet away from HRH for at least a couple of minutes. After that, it was tea and small cakes a plenty. If you’ve never been, it certainly is something that I’d recommend you experience if you get the chance. Now I’ve done it once I know what it’s all about so probably wouldn’t rush back.

Not until, that is, I’m called to the Palace to receive my Knighthood!

More Wrong Guesses On The Word Is Out

April 9th, 2010

So we’ve easily passed the £1000 mark on The Word Is Out and still it looks like no-one has even come close to giving us the right answer!

As always happens, we’ve had a few recurring wrong guesses on air. This time around the most common wrong guesses seem to be Scenery and Atmosphere with Gravity also in the running for the “Most Likely To Infuriate Regular Listeners” Award!

If it helps, here’s a list of the most recent guesses on air:

Bookies, Food, Earth, Space, Daylight, Telephone, Family, Stability, Sun, Car, Ambience, Banter, Alcohol, Nippers, Shops, Gossip, Countryside, Freedom, Sunset, Newspapers, Weather, Sex, Soaps, Life, Convenience, Mountains, View, School, Internet, Seaside, Football, Car, Radio, Grass, Lifestyle, Daffodils, Shuttle, and Snow…

Remember, you can play The Word Is Out three times every weekday; at 7.15 and 9.15 on Breakfast and at 5.15 each evening on Overdrive.

This weight loss is getting harder but were near the end!

March 15th, 2010

Well as you will know my weight loss has turned to weight gain as I put on 1lb last week which isn’t good.  This week isn’t looking much better either.  I have just eaten some home made chocolate brownies.  They tasted fantastic but my theory is that if it tastes good then its probably bad for you.

I have decided I need to make a final push to reach the 1 stone I hoped to loose.  Its time to cut out the chocolate, crisps, fizzy juice and takeaways, and go back to the healthy diet - 3 meals a day with  a healthy snack in between.

I have also decided to join a walking group.  I am due to do my first one by the end of this week so I will let you know how I get on.

Remember to listen to the Wednesday Weigh In, this Wednesday just after 6pm.  And Ali with the Wednesday Weigh In @ The Weekend Saturday from 2pm.

Take A Trip With Us Into Space…

February 17th, 2010

… and some free money could be yours!

The Word Is Out has been on air for a few weeks now with that new audio clip; in case you missed the answer to the last clip we played with for months the answer to that was FLANNEL! So over the past few days we’ve had a whole bunch of wrong guesses, and already some duplicates. In case you missed any of the rounds of the competition so far, here’s a list of some of the wrong guesses so far:

Atmosphere, Cuddle, Gossip, Seasons, Sun, Rain, Dog, Eclipse, Wife, Scenery, Soaps, Football, Pub, Family, Job, Bingo, Library, Takeaway, Weekends, Noise, Weather, Countryside, Politics, Telly, Birds, Chaos, Food, Daylight…

Remember, you can play three times each weekday - twice on Kingdom Breakfast with Ian & Diane at 7.15 and 9.15 and with me on Overdrive every evening at 5.15.

What A Bunch Of Losers!

January 14th, 2010

And I mean that in a good way!

As you may have heard on Overdrive last night or on the Kingdom FM Podcast it was a good result for everyone taking part in the Wednesday Weigh-In. Everyone lost some weight - admittedly some more than others but the main point is that noone gained weight. If you’re following our progress on air and doing your own home version of the Weigh-In I hope you had a good week too. If not, don’t be disheartened, there’s always next week!

For those of you who are following our progress, here are the results from Week 2:

Darren - 13st 11.5lb (down 3.5lb)
Barry - 16st 1lb (down 2.5lb)
Gary - 14st 3lb (Gary’s first week so this is his starting weight)
“C” - 10st 2.75lb (down 0.75lb)
“S” - 15st 1.5lb (down 0.5lb)
Jaki - 12st 3lb (down 3lbs)

I convinced myself the washing machine was to blame…

January 7th, 2010

… but sadly it’s not my clothes that are shrinking in the wash, it’s my waistline that’s expanding!

The first Wednesday Weigh-In of 2010 took place last night on Overdrive at 6.15pm. As ever, Barry Snedden was present for the start of our weekly public humiliation designed to encourage us to shed some of the extra pounds we’ve gained over Christmas, and indeed over the last twelve months!

The bad news for me is that I am now at my heaviest EVER! Trying to see the silver lining in the particularly overweight cloud I tell myself that now things can only get better. How I am to achieve this ‘better’ is another question altogether. I will try to cut down on sweets, crisps and takeaways and aim to eat more sensibly. I might even consider doing some exercise… though clearly I’m not going to rush into anything!

If you missed the live Weigh-In last night you can listen again and hear some unbroadcast “Extra Portions” by checking out the Kingdom FM Podcast on iTunes or by clicking here

We’d love you to join in our weight loss campaign too so feel free to get in touch and tell us how you’re doing. For the record here are the starting points of everyone who’s involved so far:

Darren - 14st 1lb
Barry - 16st 3.5lb
“C” - 10st 3.5lb
“S” - 15st 2lb
Jaki - 12st 6lb

It’s Back On Wednesday

January 5th, 2010

… and I’m not looking forward to it!

Last year Barry Snedden and I were chatting about our ever growing waistlines and how we needed some encouragemnet to drop a few pounds so we agreed that there was probably nothing better that weekly humiliation live on air… and so The Wednesday Weigh In was born!

Last year both Barry and I managed to lose around a stone each before we ended the campaign so we’ve decided to try it again this year - and it starts this Wednesday the 6th of January! Each Wednesday after 6pm we’ll do a live weigh-in on air and track our progress on our Blogs. If you want to get involved we’d love to hear how you’re doing too and we’re more than happy to give you a mention on our website and maybe even on air too.

This year we’re also going to try a few new things for us around The Wednesday Weigh In; we’re going to Podcast the weekly weigh-in on iTunes just in case you miss what happens live on air and we’ll add a Weigh In Extra that we’ll record live after our results that will only be available to our Podcast subscribers (it’s 100% free by the way!). We might even video the proceedings so you can be sure we’re not cheating!

The Wednesday Weigh In 2010 is going to be more interactive than ever and it starts this Wednesday, the 6th of January. Don’t miss it!

Happy New Year… now take our money!

January 5th, 2010

Happy New Year and welcome to 2010. I hope you had a great time over Christmas and New Year, but now that is all over and done with for another year, let’s concentrate on giving you some free money to help you pay the January post-Christmas bills!

Way back in September 2009 we started a new clip on The Word Is Out and it’s still going strong with the prize fund now above £1600! Over the course of the game we’ve given away some clues to the answer, but in case you missed them, here’s what we’ve told you so far:

# The answer is not a fruit of any sort
# The answer is a physical item i.e. not a feeling or reaction e.g. “shock”, “surprise”, “fright”
# The answer is not an item of jewellery
# The answer was described by Ian and Diane on Kingdom Breakfast as “…the sort of present your granny might give…”
# The rumour that the answer starts with the letter “T” was never given out on air.

Hopefully that helps a little! Remember, you can play The Word Is Out twice on Kingdom Breakfast with Ian and Diane at 7.15am and 9.15am and with me on Overdrive at 5.15pm.
