Light Up Fife

November 23rd, 2009

Busy old weekend for the Kingdom FM team as we headed out to switch on the lights of Fife.

Saturday saw us heading to Dunfermline and the High Street with Darren & Barry on the ‘other’ stage, Nick at the city chambers and Diane & me on the main stage. Too many highlights but I have to mention Saor Patrol - the drummers and piper and our mass air guitar session which we held to give away a proper electric guitar (thanks Kennys Music). Santa, the casts of Puss In Boots & Snow Queen plus the 7,000 or so people in the High Street ‘clapped’ on the Christmas lights (don’t ask).

Sunday saw Diane and me at the Kingdom Shopping Centre with Vivian the belly dancer, John & Rachel our Stavros Flatley dancers and,….. the real Stavros Flatley. The guys were absolutely fantastic and the crowd provided a lot of noise to make them feel welcome. We learnt during the roadshow that if I want to be part of the Stavros team I’m going to have to put on weight (I loved that one!) and that I shouldn’t ask silly questions to a belly dancer. As everyone at the roadshow found out that just leads to me having to learn some belly dancing on stage. Just as well I left my dignity at the door!

As much as it was great fun being Ian this weekend and working with Diane I hope he’s over his flu soon and back to work.

Brother and sister dance off with £500 at roadshow…

November 16th, 2009

Youngsters John and Rachel Dorrian from Glenrothes have scooped a prize of £500 after seeing off other hopefuls at the Kingdom Shopping Centre’s Stavros Flatley Dance Off Competition.

Winners - John and Rachel

Ian & Diane with the winning duo.

John (10) and Rachel (8) got three thumbs up from the judges, Kingdom FM’s Diane Lester, John Bell from The Kingdom Shopping Centre in Glenrothes, and Kenny Donally from The Rothes Halls.

Next up for the pair is an appearance next Sunday (22nd November) supporting the real Stavros Flatley from Britain’s Got Talent. Be there from 1.00pm - and see the Christmas lights get switched on too.

Is it Dame Edna, or Dame Laura???

November 12th, 2009

You’d think by now that Laura would be getting tired of our challenges to get her ready for her trip to Oz! - but she seems to be rather enjoying the experience.

Yesterday, she managed to pass the challenge of making some sort of tune out of a digeridoo.

And today she seemed very comfortable in her Dame Edna outfit  - and even read the news bulletins dressed as the Aussie housewife megastar.
Dame Laura

To enter into the spirit of the whole thing, I dressed up as a cuddly koala! I think I look rather cute, and took of advantage of the moment by giving everyone who dared to venture near the studio a cuddle!
Thanks to The Chicken Shop in Kirkcaldy High Street for the loan of the fantastic fancy dress costumes. www.chickenshop.co.uk

Tune in tomorrow to find out how Laura copes with the final challenge of the week before she jets off!

Laura prepares to go down under!

November 10th, 2009

Our very own Head of News, Laura Haldane is jetting off to Australia for a month next week - so we thought on the Breakfast Show this week, we should prepare her for the trip. So each morning we’re having the ‘Laura legs it to Oz Challenge’.
Yesterday’s challenge was to name ten famous Aussies in one minute from a set of clues (for which six marks out of ten were obtained). Today we thought it was time for her to come face to face with some ‘natives’ from Oz.  Thanks to the friendly bunch at Fife Animal Park, Laura came face to face with Jazz the Cockatiel and ‘Stitch’ the Bearded Dragon lizard.

Even though Jazz the Cockatiel likes to be kissed - Laura was having it none of it, but passed the challenge as she didn’t run out of the studio like a big girl!
Another challenge for Laura around 7.45am tomorrow.
