The Wednesday Weigh In . . .

February 25th, 2009

… the Revolution wasn’t quite televised, despite our best efforts!

This week, having found a website and piece of software called Qik I thought it might be fun to stream our Wednesday Weigh In live onto the net at qik.com/darrenstenhouse Seems like the gremlins got into the system a bit (or at least into my mobile phone, ‘cos that is what we were using to send the video) and we didn’t catch it all on video, but there’s at least some of the footage up there so feel free to check it out.

The results are in then…… (drum roll!)…..

For the second week in a row, I have stayed the same at 13st 3lbs and this week Barry gained 2lbs, taking him to 15st 9lbs.

Our report cards will both read “..could do better..”, but there’s always next week!

Pancake Day…and Diane is the Champion Tosser!

February 24th, 2009

We were tossing pancakes this morning to mark Shrove Tuesday - we even held our own Pancake Tossing Championships for the Breakfast Team.
Well done to Diane, who completed an impressive 60 tosses in 30 seconds, Laura from the newsroom came second with 23, and I was disqualified for dropping my pancake! :(

After the show we went on Trolley Watch at the Kingdom Shopping Centre, following the report that thousands of pounds is spent every year rescuing them from canals and rivers in the UK.  I stated on air that I was convinced it was pensioners responsible for most trolleys disappearing - smuggling them home and turning them into hanging baskets.

Me on Trolley Watch -
on this occasion, no pensioners were caught in the act.

We’re back tomorrow from 6.

Enjoy your pancakes.

WW@W Week 7

February 21st, 2009

Okay this is getting ridiculous and repetative. Not only am I up again (back to 15st 1.2lb) but it’s been another low exercise week. Now that’s great if I’m looking for excuses but that’s not helping get the weight down nor get a healthy lifestyle. I need a goal and I think I’ve found it although it’s a distant one.

Actually if you’re looking for something different to do this year that’s healthy then you could join me in the Glenrothes 10K in June. As I recall it’s pencilled in for the second Sunday in June but this is a good time to start some light training. If you’re up for it then there’s some good training ideas / plans on the jog Scotland site.

Back to work… in a different studio!

February 17th, 2009

It’s never easy returning to work after a holiday…you forget simple things like your computer login password and generally where everything is.  On my return today it was even worse than that, thanks to fellow presenter Kevin Brady, who yesterday decided to spill an entire mug of tea over the sound mixer in Studio One.  So today Breakfast came from Studio Two - or as we call it, the ‘News Cupboard’.  Now I’m not being a snob, but it resembles a teenager’s bedroom (I blame Craig Hamilton) - it’s a tip! Half the lights don’t work, the studio clock is permantly stuck on 5 to 8, which stopped me from being super accurate with the news and travel junctions, (!) and worse of all people couldn’t see my lovely tan on the webcam as there isn’t one in Studio Two - by the way ignore Diane’s rude comments that she thinks it’s fake, she’s just jealous!
Get well soon Studio One!

WW@W Week 6

February 16th, 2009

I think we need a motivation injection. Up by a half a pound this week although it was a lazy ‘fat’ week with no exercise and lots of unhealthy food so can’t complain really. However I feel I need suggestions on how to get the motivation levels up for going to the gym.

Any suggestions?

WW@W Week 5

February 7th, 2009

Okay, so a vaguely frustrating day as the scales for the Wednesday Weigh In at the Weekend had vanished! It had been two weeks since the last weekend weigh in thanks to my extra curricular activities last week so I was all excited about this week. Plus I had a couple of days where I didn’t eat this week although that was balanced by some extreme badness of the alcohol variety.

Anyway on the way home I popped into my local huge supermarket and bought some electronic scales; the ones that also calculate your body fat. After a few attempts I’ve decided that you need a flat, level, uncarpeted floor to get a proper steady reading and that my weight it unchanged since last time. Great! On the carpet in the living room I was 14st 6lb but in another part I was 12st 14lb. I think we’ll go with the bathroom reading.

As an experiment, and since there are no webcams in my bathroom, I tried the undressed weight and I’m 14st 9lb and, according to the scales, I’m obese. It actually says that word.

How rude!

WWWWWWWWWWWWWWords!

February 4th, 2009

As promised, I’m just back from the gym - and here’s a list of recent guessed words for ‘The Word Is Out’.  Don’t forget, one of them is amazingly close to the right answer…

£1740 could be yours tomorrow morning if you can get the right word - we play the game on air twice, at 7.15 and 9.15.   To register call 01592 757757.

Good luck!
