A scary end to the week!

January 30th, 2009

WOW! What a week it has been on Breakfast.  We had another five days of fantastic winning opportunities, including ‘Postcode Prizes’ and of course, ‘The Word Is Out’.  Everyone knows that the winning word starts with a ‘W’, but one caller this week got incredibly close to the right answer - surely it can’t last another week??? £1680 could be yours if you’re quick to the phones on Monday morning. Also next week, don’t miss the chance to be a winner with Spoiled Hairdressing in our fun new competion, ‘Celebrity Salon’.
Before I go, I promised I’d update you on how I got on this morning at the Odeon in Dunfermline when I attended the launch of their new 3D viewing experience and the showing of the horror movie, ‘My Bloody Valentine’ - a remake of the 1981 film but made even more scary in 3D.  We were all supplied with snazzy 3D glasses and soon were engrossed in the film, brought amazingly to life by modern-day technology.
Margot from the Odeon kindly supplied me with popcorn and a drink - I managed to knock the popcorn over in the first ten minutes when I jumped a mile at the opening part of the film.  I won’t give the plot away, but I will say, you will need a strong stomach to watch this film - and you’ll never see Valentine’s Day in quite the same way again!
I spent much of the film with my eyes closed - because it was just a bit too realistic for my liking! My friend Fraser, who jumped at the chance of coming along as my guest, kept wide-eyed throughout - but he’s a fan of horror films and not a wimp like me.
If you’re brave enough, check out the 3D experience yourself!
Have a great weekend.

That Friday Feeling!

January 30th, 2009

Kevin and Hob Nob

Well it’s been a long week so I’m glad it Friday! Plus of course we have our Second Chance Kennels feature on my show with Ena Conyon on Friday so that was a lot of fun. She brought in four month old Hob Nob who had been found hiding aunder a car and was coaxed out with a hob nob biscuit hence his name. He’s been through the mill recently with operations on fractures on both his back legs and a broken front leg. Because the front leg had been left for a while it’s healed a little bit squint but it makes him even more lovable. He’s got a really cute face and a sweet nature and would make a great companion if you’re looking to take on a dog. Check the site www.secondchancekennels.org if you’d like to enquire about him or look at the other dogs they have rehoming.

Well Friday is curry night so looking forward to a visit to Saffron in Dunfermline for some delicious food Indian food tonight. Tomorrow I’m off to Glasgow to catch up with my mate Joe for lunch. It’s my adopted home after spending about twenty years there. That reminds me What do you call a Glasgow girl in a white track suit?……..The Bride! Two Glasgow neds in a car with no music, who’s driving?…..The police!

All The World’s A-Twitter!

January 30th, 2009

So it’d be crazy for Kingdom FM not to get involved!

Over the past few weeks you may have read about a website called ‘Twitter‘ . It has been getting quite a lot of coverage in the media because of it’s celebrity users; Jonathan Ross, Stephen Fry, Barack Obama and of course Barry Snedden, Ali McLaren, Mike Pelosi and little ol’ me! Okay… I’ll concede that the first few names might be a bit better known than the last few, but the point is, what we all have in common is that we ‘Tweet’ regularly on twitter.com.

As you’re reading this Blog you already know what a Blog is! Twitter, quite simply is micro-blogging; it’s saying whatever it is you want to say with just 140 characters. Think of it like a web-based text message. It’s a way to let all of your Followers (sign up to the site and you’ll understand that term better) know what’s happening with you and your life at any given time.

With that in mind, I thought that as we broadcast to Fife, we might as well ‘Tweet-cast’ as well! I’ll try to let you know what’s coming up in the show, as it happens, and be able to speak to you direct  and in real time through Twitter. If you’ve got a web enabled phone, you can even stay up to date when you’re mobile. You never know.. I might let you in on a few competition secrets and the like before I broadcast it on the radio!

we’d love to have you join us on Twitter. Just click here to sign up (it’s free!) and start tweeting with us at Kingdom FM!

Beat The Brain

January 27th, 2009

Craig Hamilton is one of our talented news team here at Kingdom FM. He also fancies himself as a bit of an egg head. On Overdrive, we’re trying to prove him wrong!

Between 4.30 and 5.00pm everyday Craig will be posing a tricky question that we need to find an answer to. There are no prizes to be won, just the satisfaction of knowing that together we can ‘Beat The Brain’! So far it’s 3-0 to us so we’re racing ahead of ‘The Brain’.

In case you missed the questions so far, would you have known the answers (without using Google or similar!) to these questions…..

Q. What are the 5 Scottish football teams with the same letter at the beginning and end of their names?

Q. What country has all the vowels in it’s name and each is used only once?

Q. What words in the English language end in ‘..dous’?

That’s More Like It

January 24th, 2009

Week 3 of the Wednesday WeighIn at the Weekend and great news: I’m down to 14st 13lb. It’s a drop of 3lb which is probably not a huge amount but psychologically it’s mega because the stones part has gone down. To ensure we’re comparing like for like, I’m ensuring that I always wear roughly the same clothes when I step on the scales. For the record it means that I empty my pockets and get rid of the hoodie or jumper but I do keep the shoes on. The shoes only add a couple of pounds but keeping them on means no one sees the holes in my socks.

I really had to go down this week because I’ve been quite sensible about what I eat. While I haven’t starved myself I have however been drinking more fluids and trying to stick to only eating at meal times. I also made it back to the gym and rather than repeating the mistakes of last year I had an easy start to the gym campaign with just 35 mins of cardio.

It’s a fortnight until the next WW@W because I’m away next weekend at a murder mystery event. A group of us are going to a hotel out by Loch Lomond for the night and part of the deal is this murder mystery evening. I’ve never been to anything like this before so don’t know what to expect but I’m pretty sure it’ll be a laugh.

A tongue cleaner, a poem, and a pile of cash…

January 23rd, 2009

A busy end to the week - did you miss me raving about my latest purchase? A tongue cleaner!! It’s a simple, yet wonderful invention and gives your tongue a tingling fresh feeling - Diane was so impressed, she’s even getting one, but  will she be able to keep that tongue of hers still long enough to use it?
I’m off to an early Burns Night tonight and will be enjoying (veggie) haggis and maybe a whisky. Diane forced me to read a poem by Burns on the show this morning, which with an Essex twang, isn’t easy..apologies to my late Scottish grandad for making a mess of it!
And what is that word that starts with ‘W’ - that pile of cash in ‘The Word Is Out’ is still there for you to win on Monday morning.
Have a great weekend.
Ian.

Could do better …

January 22nd, 2009

I remember reading that on more than one report card, back in the day.  That advice is probably what I need to get back into the swing of things with the “Wednesday Weigh In”.  I am happy (or rather more relieved) to report that despite a rather lovely curry on Saturday in Cupar, and a white chocolate ice cream lolly on Sunday – I still lost 1lb.  I am so glad its not a weight gain.  The good news … I am more determined that ever this week.  Next weeks weigh in? … Bring It On !!  (Listen in Wednesday at 5.15 to Overdrive and see how Darren and I get on)

Second Chance Kennels

January 21st, 2009

Oh it’s a tough life at Kingdom FM playing music on the radio and talking about one of my favourite subjects….dogs! On Friday around 11.15am on my show I’m joined by Ena Conyon from Second Chance Kennels in Thornton who’ll be letting us know about the dogs currently available for adopting. Of course taking on a dog is a big commitment if it’s something you’re considering right now tune in or log on to www.secondchancekennels.org for more information and pics of the dogs!

I hadn’t been to the cinema for ages but did catch Slumdog Millionaire at the Odeon the other night. I’d seen plenty of hype and PR about and I’ve got to say it was all well deserved it’s an excellent movie….get along and see it!

Setting the record straight….

January 21st, 2009

It was good to be presenting the show again this morning, after a rather painful day or two.  Being a man, I don’t like to make a thing about a little bit of pain, but I have been suffering in silence for the last week or two with a rather troublesome sebaceous cyst on my back.  On Monday the doctor referred me to hospital and I had a minor op during the evening to remove ‘Lionel the Lump’ as myself and Diane had nicknamed it - hence why I was off yesterday.
I wouldn’t normally write on this blog about my ailments, but after hearing reports of yesterday’s show with Barry & Diane, I felt I should give you the correct version of events.  I did not slip on a puddle of wee from my cat Patsy and fall flat on my back, nor was there a incident with my hair going up in flames after using faulty hair straighteners - but well done for coming up with imaginative ideas as to why I was off sick.
I can’t wait until Diane next has a sickie!….

2 Days to Go…

January 19th, 2009

… till the Wednesday Weigh In that is!

Last week as you know barry lost some weight, while I stayed the same in our station wide campaign (well, Ali is playing along but Kevin, Ian & Diane all seem to be happy with their waistlines!) to shed some of the pounds we all put on over Christmas. Since last Wednesday I like to think that I have been generally ‘good’! By that I mean I haven’t eaten too much chocolate and junk food. Or should I say I hadn’t until the weekend when I fell off the wagon a bit.

I’m still living in hope that this Wedneday I’ll have lost a pound or two. I suppose we’ll find out together at 5.15pm!
