Kingdom's Blog

Twit-Two !

December 30th, 2008

With a bit of luck you may have heard Darren (and me) talking about tweeting or twitter.com

The short version: it’s a bit like a mini blog, or a status update.  It’s also VERY addictive for some really *REALLY* odd reason.

If you are already subscribed - fab ! You can fallow me … if not … and if this works, here is a look at what I have been up to / said !

    The bit between !

    December 28th, 2008

The big day has finally passed, and I have lots of nice new things … Thank you !

I hope you got everything you were after this Christmas, I’m sure you probably got a few things you didn’t really need (or want).

For me, this is the strangest part of the year.  Everybody that is working - doesn’t want to be - yet almost everybody wants everything to be “business as usual”.  I think the two really go hand in hand.

I have just been reading about the New Year message from PM GB …

“In his New Year message next week the Prime Minister will say the public needs

to display the same spirit seen during World War Two”.

… I almost don’t know what to say to that.

Happy New Year (when it comes) !

My last Kingdom Blog before Christmas…

    December 23rd, 2008

…but there’s no reason you can’t keep up to date with what’s happening thanks to micro-blogging!

Perhaps you’ve never heard the term ‘microblogging’ before. It was something I had never come across before the start of the year. It’s really just a very short blog… so short in fact that it was designed to be done within the constraints of a single text message i.e. 160 characters! As a bit of a ‘techy head’ I signed up to one of the many online micro-blogging sites way back then… and is often the case with such things, the novelty soon wore off. Then only a few days ago I read an article about the site I used (briefly!) for micro-blogging - Twitter. It seems that 20% of the sites users have signed up within the last 60 days - that’s quite a significant take up by any standard - and the site is now used by the great and the good, as well as lowly radio djs! Stephen Fry and Barack Obama are just two of the household names you can find ‘tweeting’ on Twitter on a regular basis. With a new found vigour, I made sure the username I had created was still active and I’m now (for now anyway!) ‘tweeting’ fairly regularly… I’ve even lnked it into my Facebook account.

If you fancy joining me online just create an account and add me here… and if we don’t speak between now and then, have a GREAT CHRISTMAS!

    Fat Geese

    December 20th, 2008

As I write it’s just 4 shopping days until Christmas which means 3 days until I start mine. According to the papers this is no bad thing because the 75% off sales are starting on Christmas eve although I suspect the sales will be full of items that none of my family want.

Regardless of all that I’ll be on Kingdom FM on Christmas Day with a special morning show taking you from present opening at 8am through to lunch at 12noon. It’s my favourite show of the year because there are so many people awake, excited and listening to the radio. Even on the years that I’ve had 6am starts you get to drive through Fife and see lights in nearly all the windows of the houses.

We’ll be wanting to hear your Christmas stories and you can get in touch on the day by calling 01592 757 757 or texting 60300 but don’t forget to put Kingdom at the start of the message. That text’ll cost 25p. You can send your story now aswell by emailing ali@kingdomfm.co.uk

We’ll no doubt have a few Christmassy questions although I’ll be steering clear of involving my family in this after the revelation in a previous show that my mother was cooking 100 brussel sprouts. I got lots of ‘windy’ jibes for weeks after that one!

    What’s In The Winter Suitcase?

    December 10th, 2008

If you think you know…a dream ski or snowboarding holiday could be yours!

We’re upping the ante a bit on Overdrive this week with ‘What’s In The Winter Suitcase’. That’s our big pre-Christmas competition which could see you enjoying a 4* half board holiday to Bansko in Bulgaria, flying from Edinburgh, with Balkan Holidays.

If you missed the clues to 2 of the 6 mystery items in our suitcase, don’t worry….. here they are again!

Clue 1: One of the items you will find in our winter suitcase is the sort of thing you could take on a summer holiday. Whether there’s snow or sun, you could still end up ‘pink’ without this.

Clue 2: When we’re doing what we do on the radio, we wear something that is a little bit similar to this item…but the item you’d pack in your case would be much more furry!

There….don’t say I’m not good to you! Keep listening for your cue-to-call and play along on Kingdom Breakfast and Overdrive!

Ian has to ‘Find a Friend in Five Days’…

    December 8th, 2008

Well, can you believe it’s nearly time for the Kingdom FM Christmas Party nights this coming weekend?….As both myself and Diane are hosting the event, we were told that we could invite some friends along on the Saturday night event. Unfortunately my friends are all elsewhere that evening, so we hit on the idea of ‘Find a Friend in Five Days’.
All this week we’re asking people to nominate themselves to be my friend for one night only this coming Saturday. You’ll get to sit with me, enjoy a meal and top entertainment all for free!!!  So call in between 9-10 every morning and you could be coming along to a fun night out at The Rothes Halls in Glenrothes. There was a promising amount of interest on day one with nominations from David, Dot and Martha amongst others.
Also today saw the start of our exciting comeptition ‘What’s In The Winter Suitcase’ with Balkan Holidays. Maggie from Glenrothes has already worked out one of the items packed away in the suitcase. The trick is to keep listening and work out the rest of the contents and you could be heading off to a winter ski break for two people to the 4* Hotel Straz-height in Bansko.
    Good luck!

    I’m Running Out Of Time

    December 3rd, 2008

…and it’s beginning to stress me!

Christmas, at the time of writing, is just over three weeks away and I have bought very little in the way of presents. While this isn’t completely out of character for me, the thing that is really bothering me is a lack of a list of things to buy!

Last year, and admitedly for the first time ever, I was very organised. So much so that I even had (please keep this a secret between the two of us) an Excel Spreadsheet with items to buy and bought, where the gifts came from, who they were for, and whether or not they had been delivered! It all worked like clockwork and I think I had all of my Chrsitmas pressies bought by mid December. This year, I am afraid to say it’s going to be a different story. Inspiration for gifts is sadly lacking and I’m struggling to come up with good gift ideas. In my defence, I am probably causing a similar amount of grief to the people who are buying for me. Whenever anyone asks what I would like for Christmas I usually say “…I don’t need anything…” - and then watch the frustration spread across their face. While it seems like I’m just being difficult, I really don’t need anything new! It almost brings up that eternal festive dilemma…what do you get the man who has everything?

The answer to that is a simple one - Angelina Jolie!

December is here…now it feels like Christmas!

    December 1st, 2008

We can’t believe it’s already December, but on Breakfast today it was certainly feeling like we are getting close to Christmas.  Santa made his first daily visit to the show (he’ll be back tomorrow between 8.00-8.30), and we also opened our first window on our advent calender with Fife’s Premier Bingo Clubs, giving you chances to win superb prizes every day!
Diane and I were in a party mood on Saturday in Edinburgh when we went to see ‘White Magic’ in Princes Street Gardens  - magic, drag, dance, fun and laughter with good, all round tongue-in-cheek humour! ..we loved it, go and see it!!!..it’s on through to January 4.   I got so carried away dancing that I managed to get wax from a candle all over Diane’s top and some red wine - so our first date was a bit of a disaster - but thanks to everyone who called and texted today with tips on how to get wax out of clothing!
Finally, thanks to everyone who came to see us at The Scottish Deer Centre near Cupar on Saturday afternoon - despite freezing temperatures, we had a great time.
