Today’s show was…scary!

October 31st, 2008

Just to get in the mood for Halloween, we both decided to wear our illuminated Devil’s horns  throughout the show - to be honest they weren’t that scary!
Kingdom FM listeners people came on the phone giving us examples of their evil laughs.  We came to the conclusion that Diane’s laugh was more like Santa than the Devil, but she certainly had the most macho laugh for sure out of the Breakfast team.
We also chatted to Andie from Full Moon Investigations who told us about the spookiest place in Fife - St Andrews Castle.
Happy Halloween!

Today on Breakfast…

October 30th, 2008

Not a good start to the day for me after my shower blew up this morning as I was getting ready for the day, putting me at least ten minutes behind schedule as an impatient Diane Lester waited outside my house for her lift.
Today we chatted about the Dr Who replacement as David Tennant has decided to leave the series.  Linda called and suggested Ken Dodd as worthy stand in. Diane favoured a female Dr Who, but Ewan texted making the point that a woman wouldn’t be able to park the tardis without denting it!
Jane MacDonald (not the cruise liner woman) won £100 on When’s Your Birthday - it’s the final one tomorrow.
Also the big news today that Diane car’s MOT test reported that the state of the tyres and suspension were of concern….nothing to do with Diane’s erratic driving of course!
We’re back from 6 tomorrow morning for the final one of the week as we celebrate Halloween.

Special Constables Gilmour & Lester at your service…

October 29th, 2008

Today Diane told us how she had been a victim of crime after the show yesterday, when someone nicked her purse while she was out shopping. She explained that once before, while in Brasil she witnessed a pickpocket and jumped on his back to stop him!  I also told the story of  how I held onto a criminal when he attempted to steal my car.
One listener was so impressed that she called the Breakfast Show - she was a Special Constable in her spare time and suggested that we both considering joining up as crime fighters….. we’ll consider it…maybe….!!
Also, did I mention that Diane slept in today and had an extra hour in bed???…
I’ll see you tomorrow morning from 6..(Diane may be in slightly later!)

A ‘grey’ day on Breakfast…

October 28th, 2008

The big talking point on Breakfast today was to do with Diane’s new look kitchen.  She’s already bought her grey tiles for the floor but I suggested that she doesn’t paint the walls grey too - it all sounded a rather depressing colour scheme for one room!!! I thought red would be a daring alternative.
Kingdom FM listeners suddenly turned into Colin & Justin mode and rang and texted with their thoughts on the matter.  Margo in East Weymss suggested an olive colour for the walls; Lorraine in Springfield thought white walls with colourful prints would be good; and Mark texted his recommendation of ‘powder blue’. . . all of which Diane ignored!!! One texter even accused me of picking on Diane and said I have no taste!!! - I was merely stopping her from making an expensive mistake! That’s the thanks you get!
Today we also saluted the gritters for getting us to work safely, discussed the latest showbiz split of Jordan and Peter, found out that Stuart the Travel boy had been badly behaved on Saturday night, and Diane pledged to “get me out more” and away from my TV screen.
Tomorrow the prize money in ‘The Word Is Out’ goes up to £300.

The dating game on breakfast…

October 21st, 2008

We agreed to help Stuart the travel boy to get “a bird for Christmas” after he revealed today that he’s never had a date! Tracy called into the show to suggest internet dating as a possible solution to Stuart’s love life - she’s met her fiance online and is getting married next month. Meanwhile Diane revealed that she once climbed out of a restaurant window to escape from a blind date!
Meanwhile, we finally identified the ‘Telly Top Five’ for ‘Crossroads’ as  Wobbly Sets, Benny, Miss Diane, Shughie McFee and the QE2 that Meg waved her farewell from.
Tomorrow, don’ t miss our interview with the one and only…Chesney Hawkes who’s appearing at the Festival Theatre in Edinburgh in the show ‘Can’t Smile Without You’ - you’ll hear it soon after 9.15am.

Early Morning Joys

October 18th, 2008

Since returning to Kingdom FM to present the Saturday breakfast show my friends and family have all made the same comment:”that must be terrible getting up to drive to the studio”. They’re alluding to the fact that I have to leave the house at 4am which to many is a disgusting time to be awake. Normally I point out that it’s once a week and that more often that not I’m up at that time to get to the airport to catch the early flight to London.

This morning, however, I drove in realising that by being up this early you experience things that other people don’t. For a start you get to see the sun rise which is always beautiful, especially during the summer months. The other thing is that when it snows or when, as now, the leaves fall from the trees you find yourself blazing a trail along untouched backroads. Admittedly when you’re running late a slippy road isn’t the thing you want but I’m willing to live with it.

That said, in a few months I’ll probably be back to moaning about being up early.

It’s been a big week on Breakfast!

October 17th, 2008

We’ve had a great time on Breakfast this week and have given away some fantastic prizes including over a thousand pounds in ‘The Word Is Out’ and hundreds of pounds on ‘When’s Your Birthday’ (which continues next week).

This morning Amanda from Glenrothes managed to bag herself a fantastic city break to Hong Kong too - thanks to our friends at Knockhill Racing Circuit.

We’re back on Monday from 6 - so if you want a fun start to your day, be there!!

Have a great weekend.

Ian & Diane Go Green

October 15th, 2008

Well we did our bit for the environment today (well to be honest it was to save us money) - it was day one of the carshare experience. To be honest it was a bit of a white knuckle ride with Diane at the controls of her car (hairdryer on wheels).  But it was good fun and we had a good blether on the way into the studios and after a stiff drink, I was ready for the show at 6.00am.

It was a brand new ‘Word Is Out today’, and it’s all to do with the best invention ever..so get your thinking caps on and give us a call at 7.15 or at 9.15 tomorrow!  Gary, who works at Fife Council won the dosh yesterday when he correctly guessed the word ‘timeshare’.

We’re also still listening out for those ‘Hong Kong Songs’ - giving you a chance to win a holiday of a lifetime to a wonderful destination - check the homepage of the website for more information.

Meantime, ‘Mad Marion’ gave us all a good laugh in the last hour when we played the ‘Telly Top 5′.  We’re reminiscing about the Magic Roundabout at the moment, and Marion filled us in on the sordid lovelife of Ermintrude the cow.

Join us tomorrow from 6-10am.

Alton Towers

October 14th, 2008

Every time I have talked about the Kingdom FM Travel Club trips to Alton Towers I’ve been kicking myself that I didn’t have the time off organised to go on them. Well, as I have a whole week off I’ve decided to take the journey south along with my other half to see what all the fuss is about. I must confess I am a bit of a chicken when it comes to the white knuckle rides  but she who must be obeyed has made it clear I’m going on them all even if she has to drag me on.

So this is where I need your help. Basically I need to know the best rides and any hints and tips you can give me so I can get the most out of my trip. I’ll let you know how I got on whenI’m back on air on Sunday night - as long as I make it back in one piece of course.
