Early Starters

March 31st, 2008

The schools are now on their Easter break, but, as always, on Overdrive we do what we can to take the stress out of your life.

When I say “we”, I really do  mean “we” this week, because all week the usual team of me, Naomi and Craig have a new addition! His name is Ben Miller, and he is the voice of the clues as we play Early Starters !

Ben Miller

To win, just listen out for Ben’s “cute clues” to a different type of vehicle each day. Once you’ve worked out what he’s describing, call, text or email to win!

It’s that simple!

The start of BST

March 30th, 2008

The problems of being too prepared became apparent this morning.

Hopefully you remembered that as British Summertime officially started this morning - now that’s a joke! - all of our clocks had to “Spring forward” by one hour. Being the conscientious chap that I am, naturally I remembered too.

The problem is, seldom a year goes by when the clocks change without some sort of time related incident. This year was no exception! You know I love  my gadgets and technology. You may also know that I was recently able to upgrade my mobile phone for a lovely ‘gadgety’ Nokia N95 . So, before going to sleep last night, and setting my alarm for 8 this morning,

I dutifully  added 1 hour to my phone’s time. Clever??!! No, not really! The phone is so gadgety that it knew BST had begun so added another hour as I slept!

I wasn’t quite such a fan of the gadgets when my alarm went off an hour early on a Sunday morning!

What time?!?

March 29th, 2008

Setting three alarm clocks was the only way I could be sure!

Sure of what? Quite simply, not sleeping in for the show this morning! Kevin is on holiday (dare I say “again”?! :-D ) so I’m covering his Saturday Breakfast show for the next few weeks.

As you know, I’m no stranger to Saturday Breakfast, I did the show regularly for long enough, so it’s actually quite a refreshing change to get back to chatting with you early on a Saturday again.

As an added bonus, I’m certain I will get to sleep with no trouble tonight which is probably just as well - don’t forget the clocks go forward tonight so we all “lose” an hour in bed. With that in mind, if I miss the first hour of Easy Sunday tomorrow, now you’ll know why!

Gadgets

If you’ve bought an HDTV recently you may have been sitting on the sidelines wondering whether to get an HD-DVD or Blu-Ray player?  Well I certainly was and the recent news from Toshiba that HD-DVD is going the way of the betamax finally made the descision for me.

So last week I purchased a PS3 as it is the most ecconomical and future proof way into Blu-Ray just now, and I have to say I’m very impressed with it as a media player.  The picture on movies is just stunning, with loads of fine detail that you just don’t get on a 40″ tv and DVD.  As an added bonus it also streams music and video from your PC as well.

So if you find yourself lamenting the poor picture on your shiny new HDTV it’s time you got yourself an HD source :)

The Diet

March 26th, 2008

Strange things have been happening. My jeans seem to have shrunk in the wash. People keep telling my I’m ‘filling out’. I even met a friend this week who I’ve not seen for years and they confirmed my worst fears……… I’ve put on weight aarghh!!!! Well as I’ve still got to munch my way through my Easter eggs there’s no point in doing anything about it this week but things will change next week. No more crisps and a little less beer should do it. Now I’m not the tallest person in the world so I reckon half a stone should do the trick. Of course I may forget to start the diet if nobody reminds me………..

Get your hands on my £££!

Cash!

This money is burning a hole in my pocket!

Have you tried your luck with ‘What’s That Noise with Kitchen Choice’ yet? We’ve passed the £500 mark and the cash could be yours…. IF you can work out exactly what is making our mystery noise.

Today Willy in Pitlessie thought the answer was a Typewriter, and through his question before his  guess, we established that the noise wasn’t coming from a Knitting Machine either!

Call me to register to play for the cash weekdays from 4…. I’ll speak to you then!

Holiday !

March 25th, 2008

It’s been a busy start to the year, but I am getting to take some time off over the next couple of weeks. It seems everybody is jetting of to some flash holiday destination, but, I am perfectly happy to be spending a couple of weeks at home.

I am not sure, yet, how I will spend the time. I guess there will be more housework than ever to do, some DIY tasks for me to fail, and lots of moments where I may think ‘I’d rather be working just now’… well I say this on Day One, perhaps by the end of the first week I will be wanting even more time off.

I joined a gym with Darren the other week, we are still going regularly, and REALLY enjoying it. Perhaps I will have some muscle definition soon!

I’ll probably post again before I am back at work, I’m sure I will have something to talk / moan about.

I hope you had a good Easter. I really enjoyed covering for Darren on Easter Sunday on his new show Easy Sunday 10am to 1pm. If you haven’t caught it yet try it this weekend, plenty of soft songs to listen to whilst you eat your bacon rolls and sift through the Sunday papers. Just on music there seems to be a famine of great new songs right now. We always reckon this happens in the music industry every few months. I do love Gabriella Cilmi’s new song though, Sweet About Me, think about a cross between Duffy and Winehouse and you can almost here it! She’s originally from Australia but has lived in the UK since she was signed to Island records when she was thirteen! She’s now sixteen and sounds amazing. She shares a manager with the Sugababes……damn I knew I should have gone to thier gig at the Playhouse recently. We’re playing it loads so listen out for it .gabriella17_shot-8-270-copy.jpg

Descisions….

March 19th, 2008

So what should I be putting in this blog, that’s the 64,000 dollar question.

I suppose it should be something interesting that you will want to read, but do i really want to be pouring out my heart and soul… probably not as most likely it will fail criteria #1 :)

Indeed there are losts of things I could share with you, however those will have to wait for another day.

I Failed The Test!

March 3rd, 2008

So…at the weekend I got new glasses. Ah, the joys of getting older! Next it’ll be metal hips and grey hair!

I last had a new pair of glasses years ago when I still had a “real” job outside of radio so that prescription must’ve been 13 or so years ago! To be honest, I never wore my glasses much but lately I found that I had been squinting even more than usual at computer screens and the like, so went for an eye test. Yes, you guessed it, as with most of the tests I have taken in my life, I failed!

So, the upshot is specs…not for constant use but to be used, as the highly trained fully qualified optician told me “only when I am using my eyes”.

That’ll only be when I’m awake then!!
