Happy birthday!

October 5th, 2008

So Kingdom FM is 10 years old today.  Perhaps when I go into the studios today someone will have bought a nice cake, after all we have a big presenters meeting, and the last time we had one of them we got free pizza :-)

If anyone buying the cake is reading this, can we make it not chocolate please?  A nice sponge will suffice….

For me I’ve been part of the team for 4 years now and enjoyed every minute of it even the overnights in the beginning, here’s to another 10 years!

Erring on the side of caution

September 13th, 2008

This week I’ve been on holiday from the day job, so with Mrs Arthur being too pregnant to fly we decided a few weeks ago to take advantage of a cheap deal at Haggerston Castle in Northumberland.Everything was going well until they phoned us on Sunday, the day before we were due to go.  Aparently the lake was at risk of breaking it’s banks due to the heavy rain in the north of England over the weekend.  The good news is that the lake didn’t burst it’s banks, although the car almost got stuck in the mud… it was worse than Glastonbury! We also decided to go the the Holy Island for a day trip. Now, for those of you not in the know, you get there via a causeway that floods at high tide.  We got there whilst it was ‘flooded’ except that it was bone dry.  Being the cuious sort I thought I would go back the next day to see it flooded, high tide duly came and went and I’d be surprised if there was more than 4 inches of water on it.The picture of the jeep in 5 foot of water must be on a bad day!

Where am I?!

August 22nd, 2008

I think it would be fair to say that I’m quite good when travelling about, and that I don’t tend to get lost that often.

Unfortunately the same cannot be said whenever I visit Glasgow. Every time I go, I get lost!  Yesterday I had to go to an IT training course and promptly took the wrong road out of Queen street station.  Even the bloke from the Royal Mail sent me in the wrong direction!

If only I had followed the directions I had printed out before I got there, I would have been fine. But, where’sthe fun in that?

The weather is confused!

August 13th, 2008

Aparrently it’s summer just now, you might remember this from your childhood, traditionally it was a time when you were off school for 6 weeks and the sun came out!

Not this year though!  It feels like it’s been raining since April, the grass in the garden was nearly a foot long in places recently as any time i was available to cut it, it was raining!  Like a lot of people I joked about building an Arc, this afternoon I was so shocked at a glimmer of sunshine in Edinburgh that it was nearly turned into an impromptu barbque.

Now where are the marshmallows on a stick….

Plurk

June 21st, 2008

I confess I’ve been swindled into signing up for various “social networking” sites. I only signed up to Bebo to check the answers to someones quiz. However a few weeks ago Darren sent some of us an invite to plurk.com and so far it’s been quite fun.

It’s kind of like MSN in a way, but also nothing like it at the same time. You can have conversations wil you friends which show up in a timeline that you can scroll through. You also earn Karma points for being a good plurker.

How long til I get bored with it, who knows, however it’s fun whilst it lasts.

Interweb

May 29th, 2008

Don’t you hate it when someone sells you something and it turns out it’s not exactly as they described it?

So why do internet service providers sell us “unlimited” connections only to limit them!! It turns out that my ISP  is now rolling out more restrictions on how much and when you can download on their unlimited plans.

It turns out that very soon I will only be able to download at full speed for only 2/3rds of the time! :( And they still call it UNLIMITED!

Now where’s the cancellation phone number…

Petrol

April 25th, 2008

It’s amazing how quickly we have all turned into crazy people obsessed with filling up our tanks to within an inch of the brim. Currently of course there is no shortage, by that I mean there are plenty of wholsale supplies, however the retailers are running out as everyone is turning up at the same time and taking as much as they can.

Retailers just don’t keep that kind of capacity on site, they rely on regular top up patterns, rather than the entire country turning up at once - which is what we have seen this week.

Of course as soon as they story broke at the tail end of last week we all knew it would happen, as soon as you tell someone we might run out of petrol and not to panic, panic was inevitable.

Gadgets

If you’ve bought an HDTV recently you may have been sitting on the sidelines wondering whether to get an HD-DVD or Blu-Ray player?  Well I certainly was and the recent news from Toshiba that HD-DVD is going the way of the betamax finally made the descision for me.

So last week I purchased a PS3 as it is the most ecconomical and future proof way into Blu-Ray just now, and I have to say I’m very impressed with it as a media player.  The picture on movies is just stunning, with loads of fine detail that you just don’t get on a 40″ tv and DVD.  As an added bonus it also streams music and video from your PC as well.

So if you find yourself lamenting the poor picture on your shiny new HDTV it’s time you got yourself an HD source :)

Descisions….

So what should I be putting in this blog, that’s the 64,000 dollar question.

I suppose it should be something interesting that you will want to read, but do i really want to be pouring out my heart and soul… probably not as most likely it will fail criteria #1 :)

Indeed there are losts of things I could share with you, however those will have to wait for another day.
